As we continue to grapple with this ever-changing, upside-down world, I am offering a flexible approach to author visits for the 2020-2021 school year. All visits will be virtual, and I’ll work with you to put together a package that works best for your current situation. Here is some basic information and pricing.
Book Reading Only
Book Reading and Q&A Session:
Single Presentation: $100
Each virtual classroom visit is 50-60 minutes long, and includes a PowerPoint chock-full of both writing tips and strategies for being courageous like Rosie, a book reading, and a question and answer session. Each presentation will be individualized based upon the age/development of students. Sample presentations are listed below.
If you would like me to “visit” multiple classrooms in a given day or over a week, I am happy to offer a 10% discount for each additional classroom.
Bringing it Home:
All of these presentations are also available to students and families in their homes if “pandemic-homeschooling” is still taking place. Teachers, librarians, or parents can organize a single presentation, multiple presentations, or a 30-minute author reading and Q & A. The fees are the same as virtual visits at school. I am also happy to chat about a fee that works best for your current situation.
Sample Presentations: Lauren combines her expertise as an author and a mental health clinician in all of her presentations. (You can't take the mental health clinician out of the author.)
You've Got this! Making Waves with Rosie the Dragon and Charlie
During this visit, Lauren will read ROSIE THE DRAGON AND CHARLIE MAKE WAVES, offer a sneak peek of ROSIE THE DRAGON AND CHARLIE SAY GOOD NIGHT, speak briefly about how a book is made, and engage the students in activities that will help them act courageously, like Rosie the dragon. This presentation is geared toward preschool and elementary school-aged children.
You've Got This! The Path to Publication
Students will take a journey through the path to publication. Lauren will talk about the ways in which writing requires courage, offer specific writing exercises, and engage students in daring to dream about their own personal goals. This presentation is geared toward middle and high school students.
Planning and Crafting a First Draft: Finding the Heart
Lauren will break down the writing process with graphics, organizational tools, and specific exercises in order to help students through the challenges they may face in creating a first draft. This presentation is designed for elementary-aged students as well as middle and high school students.
Writing is all About Revision: Revising with Flexibility and Courage
Students will look at ways to approach revision without sacrificing their vision and confidence. Specific visual tools, strategies, and exercises will be explored. This presentation is designed for elementary-aged students as well as middle and high school students.
Special Offering: If you're looking for a way to support your parents, Lauren is currently offering a presentation entitled: Give Yourself a Break: Parenting During a Pandemic. Please reach out if you are interested in providing this presentation to your families.
Booking a Visit:
Please review the above information and determine which visit might work best for you. Then fill out the below form with your information, a few possible dates, and the type of visit you’d like. I look forward to “visiting” with your school!
Please plan to purchase copies of my books prior to, or in conjunction with my author visit so that you can familiarize your students with the book and help them formulate questions for the Q&A. I have partnered with one of my wonderful local Independent Bookstores, Second Star to the Right Books, to make this as easy as possible. Second Star can send books and swag directly to you. Please click on this link in order to purchase Rosie the Dragon and Charlie Make Waves. Second Star can also help you pre-order Rosie the Dragon and Charlie Say Good Night and Home for a While.
